Chapter 253 — Could It Be That the Pretence Has Become Real? "Oh, Yao-jie, you mean you want him to take responsibility for me?" Shen Yushu blinked, looking utterly bewildered.
"..." Gu Mengyao truly did not know what to say. "Aren't you going to get your brother to beat him up?"
"Oh, Arrow Bro already copped a feel once when he pulled me out from between the iron railings." Shen Yushu thought it over, her eyes darting about. "Yao-jie, how about we just put this on account for now? If he behaves himself from here on, we won't give him any trouble?"
"Mm, that's a good idea." Gu Mengyao was all for it. After all, the one who had been felt up was Little Shu, not her. If Little Shu did not mind, what was there for her to mind?
"I saved you both times!" Wei Zhao, however, was not willing to let it go. He had saved Shen Yushu twice, and this girl still wanted to make trouble for him?
"Oh, then never mind, we'll call it even. But Arrow Bro, you can come bungee jumping with us this weekend — I've never jumped before, so come along and keep us company!" Shen Yushu did not mind either; with Wei Zhao's handle in her hand, the whole business had become unimportant.
"No problem..." Wei Zhao had meant to refuse, but then he reflected that he had, after all, felt Shen Yushu up, and had fondled the young lady's best friend right in front of her. He was lucky Gu Mengyao was not making trouble for him. What was bungee jumping compared to that?
Gu Mengyao could not make out what Shen Yushu was thinking. Only after Wei Zhao had gone off to eat did she quietly ask her, "Little Shu, do you really like Wei Zhao?"
"Huh? No..." Shen Yushu said indistinctly, eating a tangerine.
"No? Then you let him feel you up?" Gu Mengyao frowned and sighed inwardly. Her best friend must have been bewitched by Wei Zhao — otherwise, how could she have no reaction at all to being groped?
"He didn't do it on purpose!" Shen Yushu herself found it a little strange... She did not seem to resist Arrow Bro? Being groped, she had no wish to beat him up for it; she was more interested in the bungee jumping instead. It was as though being felt up was not very important...
"You..." Gu Mengyao did not know what to say. This best friend of hers... could it be that after confessing to Wei Zhao once, she had actually fallen for him? Had the two of them made the pretence real?
Zhang Tongtian, as before, crossed his legs and, wearing the look of a man who held all the cards, dialed Sun Jingyan's number.
"Hello? Is this Miss Sun?" To Zhang Tongtian, Sun Jingyan was meat already in his mouth. Unless she meant to stop doing business in Songshan City altogether, this time he would certainly drag her name through the mud!
With Zhang Tongtian's connections in Songshan City, he knew plenty of reporters in the news media. As long as this video was leaked, Sun Jingyan's company would be finished!
Not only would they face penalties from the relevant authorities, but more crucially, no one would ever do business with their company again! Who would do business with such an unsafe company?
The purchasing managers of those companies all held cushy posts; everyone knew how such things worked. They got their kickbacks from other companies just the same — why insist on Sun Jingyan's, which could be exposed at any moment?
Zhang Tongtian, however, did not know Sun Jingyan's background. In fact, Sun Jingyan had come to Songshan City alone, and not because she wanted to lean on her family's connections. She had come here precisely to get away from the Sun family!
Sun Jingyan truly did not want to think about the faces of those people in the Sun family. They were supposed to be one family, yet they fought one another to the death over Grandfather's estate. They were already like this before Grandfather had even died; once he passed, who knew what sort of mess they would make...
Sun Jingyan's parents had died early, and she had grown up with her grandfather. Merely because she was a little closer to him, the rest of the Sun family treated her as public enemy number one in the scramble for the estate. It made her miserable, and in the end she'd had no choice but to leave for another city and carve out a place for herself!
"President Zhang, is there something you need?" Sun Jingyan had the memory card now, so naturally she no longer feared Zhang Tongtian. She picked up the phone without her former nervousness, speaking in a leisurely tone.
"Miss Sun, have you forgotten? Today I am holding a small-scale press conference, to expose to the reporters the inside story of certain companies in the trade that do not play by the rules, disrupt the order of the industry, and stir up unhealthy practices!" Zhang Tongtian said. "Would Miss Sun be interested in gracing us with her presence?"
Zhang Tongtian sneered inwardly. Sun Jingyan, this is your last chance. Do not be ungrateful — otherwise I will expose the video at the press conference and destroy your company's reputation!
"Oh? Since President Zhang has invited me, how could I not go?" Sun Jingyan said mildly. "What time, and where?"
"Nine o'clock this morning, in my company's conference room. I think Miss Sun had better come a little early, to discuss the contents of the press conference with me!" Zhang Tongtian hinted.
"Sorry, I'm afraid I have a few things on my side; I can't come early. It will be good enough if I make it on time!" Sun Jingyan found it strange — had Zhang Tongtian not noticed that the memory card was gone? Why did he still look so sure of himself? Did he have a backup?
That could not be. Sun Jingyan had only dared to let Wei Zhao risk stealing the memory card because she had heard that Zhang Tongtian was a computer illiterate — he could not operate a computer or a video camera at all. The recording had been made by a private detective he had hired, and after watching it once, he had simply left it in his handbag.
Sun Jingyan had guessed right. To be on the safe side, Zhang Tongtian had taken a special look at the video camera that morning, found the memory card still in it, and set his mind at ease. He could not work such a delicate gadget, so he had not turned it on to check.
Zhang Tongtian was a coarse man; his only talent lay in cultivating connections. So although his company sold computers, he himself could not even find the power button on one.
"Very well. I hope Miss Sun will not regret it!" Zhang Tongtian gave a cold snort and hung up, thinking: you bitch, don't turn down a face-saving offer — you'll be crying soon enough!
At nine o'clock, Sun Jingyan finally made a belated appearance in Zhang Tongtian's conference room. Zhang Tongtian's expression was ugly, a ruthless glint flashing through his eyes. This woman really could keep her composure — but he wondered whether she would still be so composed after watching the video.
Zhang Tongtian had already decided: since Sun Jingyan was so blind to his kindness, then fine — he would simply have to let her taste the price of refusing him!
"Miss Sun, you are very late." Zhang Tongtian nodded at Sun Jingyan with studied indifference.
"President Zhang, what does it matter whether I come early or late to your company's press conference?" Sun Jingyan said mildly.
"Very well, Miss Sun, please take a seat." Zhang Tongtian gave a cold laugh and mounted the chairman's platform in the conference room.
Most of these reporters had good relations with his company; through their connections he had even invited the chief reporters of several major newspapers. One could imagine how sensational this revelation would be!
