Chapter 325 — Waiting Ten Years for You

The Blossom Guardian

"Worship him?" Wei Zhao curled his lip in something like a laugh. "Sorry to disappoint, but I really don't know him. Though you don't strike me as the worshipping type. A young girl, coming all the way to this little blue town, claiming she worships the leader of the Water Blue Gang — do you really expect me to believe that?"

The cool chick's expression froze for an instant, though on that cool little face of hers there was little to be read: "Of course it's the truth. What else would you take it for?"

"I don't take it for anything." Wei Zhao gave a cold snort. "That Mitsubishi van behind us has been tailing us for a long while now. Do you know it?"

"A Mitsubishi van?" The cool chick blinked and turned to look back. But when she faced front again, a flash of indignation crossed her face — gone in an instant, her features smooth once more. "Never seen it."

"Never seen it? Fine. Then we lose it." Wei Zhao suddenly shifted down and floored the gas. The old Santana roared and shot forward like a wild horse, opening a wide gap between them and the Mitsubishi van behind in the blink of an eye. Then he took to the side roads, left, right, left again, slipping into the alleys before the van could close in, and after a few turns the van was gone without a trace.

The cool chick watched in astonishment as Wei Zhao shifted, accelerated, handling the car with such practiced ease that a flicker of shock crossed her cool little face: "You... how are you such a good driver?"

"You've got a lot of questions. Ever since you got in, it's been one thing after another. What exactly are you after?" Wei Zhao had run out of patience for small talk with this cool chick.

He had thought her face familiar, and she was an Oriental besides, so he had figured on giving her a lift. But Wei Zhao had no wish to invite needless trouble. All those bizarre questions — she was plainly not here on holiday, and with a car tailing them besides — this was a cool chick he wanted no further part of.

"Who are you, really? You're not one of the Water Blue Gang?" Only now did the cool chick realize something was off. She had judged him from the start: seeing his getup, seeing him drive out of the Water Blue Gang's headquarters, she had taken it for granted that he was one of their men. But now it seemed Wei Zhao did not know the roads at all; he was driving blind. True, he had shaken off the van, but only because his driving skill was extraordinary.

What had tipped her off was that Wei Zhao had driven them into a dead end. Ahead lay the garbage dump — no road at all — and both sides of the lane were crumbling single-story houses, plainly long abandoned. This had to be the city's refuse collection ground... Even if Wei Zhao had been driving in a blind panic, a Water Blue Gang member who knew the local roads could never have steered into a dead end like this!

And besides, the lane had not been a dead end from the outset — there had been several turnings along the way, and Wei Zhao had taken none of them, driving straight on, clearly unaware that the road ahead led nowhere.

Linking that to his earlier claim that he did not know the Kenhe Hotel, the cool chick finally sensed that something was very wrong.

"No," Wei Zhao admitted frankly. "I only went there to buy a car. The cap was a gift from them."

"..." The cool chick was left speechless. She frowned, feeling a little deflated and miserable inside. Was she truly just a hothouse flower, unable to stand on her own?

He was already suspicious of her; her mission this time would hardly go smoothly now.

At that thought, the cool chick's hand moved in a flicker, and a keen dagger was in her grip. With a light sweep, she drove it at Wei Zhao's chest.

Smack. Her wrist was caught in Wei Zhao's hand.

"You—" The cool chick had not expected him to catch her hand! Her social experience might be thin, but her fighting skill was first-rate; otherwise her family would never have let her carry out a mission alone.

She was confident in her skill. She had struck while Wei Zhao was completely off guard — and unless she was mistaken, he had just been working out how to turn the car around and drive back.

Yet even in that distracted state, Wei Zhao had caught her hand! A shock went through the cool chick. She tried to pull free, only to find his grip like a crab's claw, clamped tight, not the slightest give.

"You... let go of me!" Even as she spoke, the cool chick was not idle; her other hand balled into a fist and shot at Wei Zhao's face...

Wei Zhao frowned and tilted his head aside to avoid it. "After you went back, did you never read the story of Mr. Dongguo? Seems I wasted my breath on you last time. None of it sank in."

The cool chick froze, forgetting to keep up her attack. An incredulous look rose on her cool little face: "You... you... you're the one who molested me last time?"

"I'm the one who saved your life!" Wei Zhao corrected. "I saved you, and you come here to kill me — a textbook case of repaying kindness with enmity. Today I kindly gave you a ride and even answered a whole pile of your questions, and you try to kill me again."

"I..." A hint of grievance showed on Yang Qiqi's cool little face. Wasn't it just because I was afraid you would ruin my mission that I wanted to silence you? And last time, if you had not touched me and looked at my body, why would I want to kill you?

Wei Zhao had been watching the cool chick the whole way, trying to recall where he had seen her, never quite certain. But when she finally drew the knife, it came back to him! This girl was the female assassin he had run into outside the pharmacy at Songshan — the one who had lost so much blood!

"You what?" Wei Zhao frowned. "I'll count to three. Get out of the car. A little cool chick who repays kindness with enmity like you — don't let me see you again, or I won't be so polite."

Wei Zhao would admit that Yang Qiqi was very beautiful, very lovely, but keep a cool chick around who dreamed day and night of killing him? That he had no intention of doing — even if he always sensed her strike before it came, and the jade pendant gave him warning in advance.

Yang Qiqi felt deeply wronged. Looking at Wei Zhao's murderous scowl, resentment crept across her cool little face: "Fine, I'll get out! A girl can wait ten years for her revenge! I can't beat you now, so I'll come find you in ten years!"

"If you're still alive in ten years, we'll talk then," Wei Zhao said carelessly.
