Chapter 468 — Feng Xiaoxiao's Confession
Early Monday morning, Wei Zhao brought the freshly made shark fin to see Father Tang. To young ladies like Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, such a thing was no delicacy at all.
Father Tang was naturally overjoyed; at the sight of the shark fin Wei Zhao had brought, he grinned so wide he could not close his mouth. Mother Tang was delighted too — Wei Zhao's arrival had set the household right in an instant, turning it upside down for the better.
"Wei Zhao, I've been thinking it over. After the relocation, I've decided to take a shopfront unit back. It may cost a bit more, but then we could open a barbecue restaurant." Mother Tang laid out her thinking — a decision she had reached after Tang Yun told her that Wei Zhao wanted her to open a shop.
"That's a good thing!" Wei Zhao nodded. "That way, shop in front and home in back — you won't have to worry about a place to live for the time being."
"Yes..." Mother Tang got that far and then hesitated. "Only... the money we borrowed from you, I'm afraid we won't be able to pay back so quickly. We've made a little these past days, and with what's left over from Old Tang's surgery, it should be enough to cover the shopfront payment."
Mother Tang knew that if she left it to Tang Yun to say, Tang Yun would never bring herself to speak up. Better that she said it herself; even if Wei Zhao refused, it was no great matter — the one who lost face would be her, after all.
"Ha, that money doesn't need to be paid back." Wei Zhao smiled. "If it's not enough, just tell me."
"It's enough, it's enough!" Mother Tang's brows and eyes bloomed with delight at his words, and she said to Tang Jucheng, "Old Tang, see? I told you there'd be no problem on Xiaoyi's end!"
"That's good then..." Tang Jucheng let out a breath as well. He had truly been worried before. Wei Zhao might be going with Tang Yun, but they were only boyfriend and girlfriend — no betrothal, no marriage. So owing Wei Zhao so much money had never sat easy with Tang Jucheng.
"Mom, why are you two so greedy for money!" Tang Yun was a little unhappy. She no longer felt the resistance she once had to Wei Zhao giving money to her family, but she always felt she owed him. If her parents could not pay it back, in the end it would fall on her. And if she could not pay it back, what then? How was she supposed to repay it?
"This child — greedy for money? The family's just in a tight spot!" Mother Tang glared at her daughter, thinking: here's a resource right in front of you and you don't know how to use it. Wei Zhao is so generous — can't you open your mouth and borrow a little more? Then we could buy a bigger shopfront, maybe even a whole first and second floor!
Tang Yun pursed her lips, aggrieved, and lowered her head. She could not out-argue her mother, and if she tried, her mother might well come out with something even more embarrassing. So Tang Yun simply kept silent.
"All right, Uncle Tang, Auntie, Tang Yun and I are off to school." Wei Zhao smoothed things over with a smile, rescuing Tang Yun from her awkwardness.
"All right, it's about time. Off you two go." Mother Tang smilingly saw Tang Yun and Wei Zhao to the door. As Wei Zhao left, he pressed a bank card into her hand.
Mother Tang was briefly startled, then beamed and tucked it into her pocket. She knew, of course, that Wei Zhao was giving it to her — and the key point was that he had done it behind Tang Yun's back. Which meant the money was as good as a gift, not a loan! There was not even any proof of it, and Tang Yun had not seen.
Wei Zhao had come today not only to bring Father Tang the shark fin, but also to give Mother Tang this card — and to get her barbecue restaurant up and running quickly, to lighten Tang Yun's burden.
"What did you just give my mother?" Tang Yun had sharp eyes and had caught a hint of something.
"Nothing." Wei Zhao smiled.
"Did you secretly give her money?" Tang Yun was no fool; she had more or less guessed.
"No. A little piece of jewelry." Wei Zhao said it offhandedly.
"Oh..." Tang Yun breathed a sigh of relief. She was afraid of owing Wei Zhao too much, of not being able to repay it later.
Wei Zhao drove Tang Yun to school and parked on the snack street. The moment they got out, Feng Xiaoxiao's Audi TT pulled up too and parked beside Wei Zhao's car.
As for Feng Xiaoxiao having once again seized a spot on the snack street, the vendors dared to be angry but not to speak — Feng Xiaoxiao knew Wei Zhao, so who would dare court bad luck?
"Hubby!" Feng Xiaoxiao parked the car and waved to Wei Zhao.
"Huh?" Wei Zhao's eyes went wide, and he stared at Feng Xiaoxiao, baffled. Was this girl sick? Calling him hubby?
Tang Yun's face darkened too, and she looked at Feng Xiaoxiao strangely. Earlier, in the cafeteria, Feng Xiaoxiao had already shown an excessive closeness to Wei Zhao that made Tang Yun uncomfortable. And now she was openly calling Wei Zhao hubby right in front of her — what did that make Tang Yun?
"Wei Zhao, didn't you say you were going to make things clear with her?" Feng Xiaoxiao ran over and caught hold of Wei Zhao's arm. "You liar! Yesterday you told me you were going to give her a breakup fee and break up with her — so why are you still with her?"
"Feng Xiaoxiao, are you sick?" Hearing her nonsensical words, Wei Zhao was about to explode with rage.
"Wei Zhao, I think I might be pregnant. Take me to the hospital to get checked?" Feng Xiaoxiao did not answer him, only went on speaking as if to herself.
Tang Yun frowned and looked at Feng Xiaoxiao. From what she knew of Wei Zhao, she did not believe what Feng Xiaoxiao said — but anyone hearing such words would have some doubt. "What's going on?"
"Didn't Wei Zhao give you a breakup fee?" Feng Xiaoxiao looked at Tang Yun, puzzled. "Wei Zhao and I have known each other a long time. I took pity on you at first and thought I'd let you be the other woman, share Wei Zhao with you. But you didn't know your place, so I had no choice but to have Wei Zhao say goodbye to you!"
Tang Yun was stunned. She did not quite believe Feng Xiaoxiao's words, but Feng Xiaoxiao spoke with such conviction that Tang Yun could not help doubting. After all, reputation mattered greatly to a girl. Feng Xiaoxiao did not even have a boyfriend — why would she pour dirty water on herself and say such things?
Seeing the students passing by all turning to look their way, Tang Yun felt her face burn with anger and shame. What Feng Xiaoxiao said was clearly meant to humiliate her. Even if it was all lies, Tang Yun still felt deeply uncomfortable — it made the passing students think she was fighting another girl over a man.
Tang Yun had never imagined that one day she would be the lead in a love triangle!
"Wei Zhao, sort it out with her first. I'm going on ahead — come find me after class!" Not wanting to see everyone's strange looks, Tang Yun said this to Wei Zhao and turned to walk quickly toward the school.
Wei Zhao, meanwhile, looked at Feng Xiaoxiao with a dark face. "What exactly are you trying to do?"
"Wei Zhao, I like you!" Feng Xiaoxiao raised her head, her little face flushed pink as she looked at him. "I've realized I've fallen for you beyond saving! Especially yesterday — you saved me, and that made my heart flutter even more!"
