Chapter 704 — A Bit Jealous

The Blossom Guardian

"..." Gu Mengyao shot her a glare. Glaring at her from morning to night like this was going to wear her out — her own eyes were going to go bad.

Wei Zhao had long since grown used to the bickering between Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu. The two of them had always been like this, squabbling nonstop, yet their bond was frighteningly close.

Gu Mengyao pulled Shen Yushu into the back seat. The Beetle's rear cabin wasn't roomy, but it had no trouble swallowing two petite girls.

Shen Yushu shifted uneasily. "Ah, it's so cramped. I want to sit up front."

"Your boobs are too big, that's why it's cramped. Cut them off and you'll fit," Gu Mengyao said sourly.

At this moment Wei Zhao hadn't gotten into the car — he was leaning against the driver's door waiting for Tang Yun, which was why Gu Mengyao dared say such things. Only, Wei Zhao's senses were nothing like an ordinary man's, and from outside he caught every single word.

"Sister Yaoyao, you're jealous of me." Shen Yushu shielded her chest and eyed Gu Mengyao warily.

"As if I'd care. Plenty of women have big chests — nothing special about it these days." Gu Mengyao curled her lip.

"That's true. A first wife and a concubine each need their own special features; if they were the same, it wouldn't work — wouldn't be attractive." Shen Yushu nodded in agreement.

Gu Mengyao had no answer for that, so she let it drop.

Soon Tang Yun came walking out of the First Inpatient Building. Spotting Wei Zhao, she hurried over at a quick step.

Through the car window one could see that Tang Yun's figure was perfectly proportioned — a bust neither too large nor too small, legs long and straight, a height that lost nothing to Gu Mengyao's. In the parking lot under the glow of the setting sun, her ponytail swung this way and that, brimming with an indefinable bloom of youth.

Gu Mengyao had to admit that Tang Yun was perfect — a textbook picture of a beautiful girl — and it made her feel a little jealous.

"The two of us together won't lose to her one!" Shen Yushu had spotted Tang Yun too, and seeing Gu Mengyao's somewhat unyielding expression, she declared.

"..." Gu Mengyao was briefly speechless. A human-wave tactic? Or a three-way one? Even if they won, wasn't it embarrassing? Besides, when had she ever said she was going to marry Wei Zhao? She just thought he took rather good care of her, that was all...

Spotting the Beetle behind Wei Zhao, Tang Yun started. She had ridden in this car before, but it clearly wasn't Wei Zhao's — it must belong to Gu Mengyao or Shen Yushu.

"Have you waited long? I'm sorry..." Tang Yun brushed the fringe back from her forehead and apologized.

She couldn't lose her composure in front of Gu Mengyao; otherwise, in her usual mood, Tang Yun would never have spoken like that.

"It's nothing. Get in." Wei Zhao opened the passenger door for Tang Yun.

By now Tang Yun had also spotted Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu sitting in the back, and felt a trifle awkward. "Would it be all right for me to sit up front?"

"Oh, oh — that's just where I wanted to sit! Shall we swap?" Seeing that Tang Yun still "didn't want" to sit up front, Shen Yushu perked up at once.

"Xiao Shu, shut up!" Gu Mengyao clapped a hand over Shen Yushu's mouth, glared at her once more, and only then said to Tang Yun, "You're the guest, so of course you sit in front."

As a matter of fact, Gu Mengyao thought exactly the same — the car was small, and it wouldn't do to make Tang Yun sit in the back.

Hearing that Shen Yushu wanted the front seat, Tang Yun rather lost her nerve about taking it; yet having her pressed up beside the young lady was, admittedly, not quite proper either. For a moment she found herself at a loss.

"Tang Yun, don't listen to Xiao Shu's nonsense. That's simply her personality — she carries on like that every day. Spend enough time around her and you'll see." Seeing Tang Yun look troubled, Gu Mengyao at once felt a little awkward herself. She had invited the girl to dinner in order to thank her, not to declare war. What the future held was anyone's guess, but today, at the very least, she had to be sincere.

"Heh, yes." Tang Yun smiled, though inwardly she thought: how could there ever be much contact in the future? The opulent life Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu led was far, far removed from her own — she hadn't even found a place to live yet.

Tang Yun got in, Wei Zhao climbed in after her and started the engine, then asked, "What do you want to eat? Where to?"

"Leave it to me — I know a super-glam Western restaurant!" Shen Yushu said.

Seeing that Gu Mengyao raised no objection, Wei Zhao nodded. "All right."

"Turn left up ahead... then right... then get on the elevated road, take the middle on-ramp... then come off at the off-ramp on the right ahead... then..." Shen Yushu began issuing directions, more efficient than a navigation system.

Following Shen Yushu's route, Wei Zhao pulled the car up in front of a place called "Super-Glam Couple Western Restaurant." Wei Zhao was somewhat lost for words — the name was just as shockingly brazen as that "Awesome Floating Clouds Bar." Could the two of them be part of the same chain?

Gu Mengyao looked at the enormous sign over the Western restaurant and didn't know what to say either. Super-glam it certainly was. Only — this was a couples' Western restaurant? Which meant only couples ever came? What on earth did that make the four of them? The whole combination was more than a little bizarre, wasn't it?

"Xiao Shu, is this a couples' Western restaurant? Should we try somewhere else?" Seeing that everyone going in and out of the place came in matched pairs, Gu Mengyao frowned.

"We're already here — let's not change now. I'm starving!" Shen Yushu shook her head and urged.

Gu Mengyao had no choice; she let Wei Zhao park the car properly, then prepared to get out.

The valet at the restaurant entrance had assumed a couple would step out of the Beetle. To have four people emerge instead struck him as distinctly odd. "Excuse me — are all four of you here to dine?"

"Duh — why else would we park here if we weren't eating? It's not exactly a place for fun!" Shen Yushu thought the valet was a flat-out idiot, asking idiotic questions.

"Oh... then please come in..." The valet shook his head, thinking: Surely not two couples? With one of them a pair of lesbians? With that wicked thought, he showed Wei Zhao and the three others inside, and a floor waiter came forward to receive them.

"Good evening." The maître d' walked over and spoke politely.

"Give me a private room!" Shen Yushu was looking around the restaurant's decor with curiosity. She had once read about the place online — it was said to be a paradise for lovers — and had wanted to see it for herself, only she had no lover. She had heard that non-couples were turned away, so she had let the idea drop; today, though, the chance had finally come.

"One room?" The maître d' started slightly. "The four of you, in one room?"

"Yes!" Shen Yushu nodded.

"I'm sorry, miss, but this is a couples' Western restaurant. We offer only couples' private rooms and couples' booths, and we're open to couples only..." The maître d' explained, assuming they were a few guests who had wandered in by mistake.
