Chapter 1053 — Openly Admitting Her Identity
"Here, have a look." Sun Jingyan passed the menu on to Feng Xiaoxiao and Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao did not even glance at it, handing it straight to Feng Xiaoxiao. Feng Xiaoxiao, for her part, was not shy about it: she ordered a few more dishes she liked, but none of them costly — all of them the cheap-and-tasty sort. As for anything too outlandish, she naturally did not order it; after all, this was her own money now, and she would have to let it flow thin so it would last.
"That's all, then?" Feng Xiaoxiao handed the menu back to the waiter.
Wu Chengtian wanted to add a few more dishes, but before he could open his mouth, Feng Xiaoxiao went on: "Brother Chengtian is a big boss — he's long since grown tired of single-head abalone and the like. There's nothing much worth having here anyway; better to switch to something light. Order too many delicacies and it only damages Brother Chengtian's image!"
"Huh?" Wu Chengtian blinked, then waved a magnanimous hand and laughed. "Quite right! This stuff is all too shabby. Better to eat light — it's early in the morning, and that rich food is hard on the stomach!"
The waiter saw nothing amiss. The man had already bought a five-million-yuan VIP card; what he ate was his own business. Even if he ordered nothing at all and asked for a few complimentary fruit plates, she would still have to serve him with a smile.
That casual five million was enough to show the depth of Wu Chengtian's fortune. Who but a man worth hundreds of millions could spend money like that?
The waiter took the menu and withdrew. Wu Chengtian nursed his aching heart for a while before he remembered the real business of the day: he had invited Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao here to prove their relationship in front of Sun Jingyan. If that came off, then his ten million would not have been spent in vain.
"Brother Wei Zhao, this is the first time Xiaoxiao has met Jingyan, isn't it? As your host, let me make the introductions!" Wu Chengtian said, rising with a smile. "Jingyan, this is Wei Zhao's girlfriend, Feng Xiaoxiao. We met at an auction in Yanjing — we got on quite well!"
"Hello, Xiaoxiao. You don't mind my calling you that?" Sun Jingyan said with a smile, extending her hand to Feng Xiaoxiao. This was, properly speaking, the first time the two had met.
"Not at all. Then I'll call you Sister Jingyan." Feng Xiaoxiao had learned Sun Jingyan's identity from Wei Zhao and had nothing against her. So long as a person had no intention of stirring up trouble between her and Wei Zhao, Feng Xiaoxiao found it easy to accept them.
"Heh, then I'll call you little sister Xiaoxiao," Sun Jingyan said, nodding with a smile.
"Xiaoxiao, this is Sun Jingyan. She is... mm, Jingyan, how am I supposed to describe your relationship with Wei Zhao?" Wu Chengtian trailed off, looking at Sun Jingyan with a show of difficulty, tossing this "awkward question" into her lap.
Wu Chengtian might be a little arrogant, but he was not entirely stupid. At the very least, he knew that bringing Feng Xiaoxiao and Wei Zhao together to dine with Sun Jingyan, and thereby expose the true nature of Sun Jingyan's relationship with Wei Zhao, was a strategy. And now, laying that relationship out in the open and making Sun Jingyan explain it herself — that too was a strategy.
It showed that Wu Chengtian did have some cunning in him; it was only that he was usually too conceited and too fond of putting on airs, which was why he kept coming off the worse against Feng Xiaoxiao. Then again, Feng Xiaoxiao had been known as the "little demoness" back at school — and who among them had ever gotten the better of her?
"Heh. I'm Wei Zhao's mistress," Sun Jingyan said, beaming, with a nod to Feng Xiaoxiao.
"Huh?" Wu Chengtian's eyes went wide. Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined that Sun Jingyan would dare to call herself Wei Zhao's mistress right in front of Feng Xiaoxiao! Was she asking for trouble? Would Feng Xiaoxiao stand for it? Could this meal possibly go on?
Wu Chengtian could not fathom what Sun Jingyan was thinking — to openly declare herself Wei Zhao's mistress under circumstances like these?
Earlier, Wu Chengtian had assumed that Wei Zhao was two-timing, and that Sun Jingyan knew nothing of his ugly true face. So at today's dinner he meant to bring Feng Xiaoxiao and Sun Jingyan face to face; when Sun Jingyan saw that Wei Zhao had taken a new love, she would surely fly into a rage and drive him off.
But events had unfolded somewhat beyond Wu Chengtian's expectations. When Sun Jingyan saw Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao appear hand in hand before her, she seemed not to care in the least.
Of course, Wu Chengtian was not especially puzzled by this turn. To his mind, it proved one thing: Sun Jingyan herself had no real connection to Wei Zhao, and the supposed connection was merely a façade — Wei Zhao was simply a hired hand she had pressed into service.
So Wu Chengtian was delighted. Now let's see what excuse Sun Jingyan could possibly use to refuse him in the future!
But now something had happened that he had not anticipated: Sun Jingyan had actually declared herself Wei Zhao's mistress. What was going on?
"I've long heard of you!" Feng Xiaoxiao said, all seriousness, extending her hand to Sun Jingyan. "I'll be counting on Sister Jingyan to look after me from now on!"
"You two..." Wu Chengtian rubbed his eyes, almost wondering whether he was dreaming. Why was Feng Xiaoxiao not only not furious, but actually on the verge of friendly terms with Sun Jingyan? What did that mean?
"What about us, Brother Chengtian?" Feng Xiaoxiao said, feigning total innocence as she looked at him with a smile.
"You... how can you let your boyfriend take a mistress?" Wu Chengtian asked, dumbfounded, in a rush.
"Oh, and what's wrong with taking a mistress? If he hadn't taken a mistress, could I have become his girlfriend? I'm only Wei Zhao's little wife — I'm not the official first wife. Even the first wife doesn't object to his taking a little wife, so what business is it of mine to object?" Feng Xiaoxiao explained, as if it were nothing.
"Huh?" Wu Chengtian was more dumbfounded still. This Feng Xiaoxiao was not Wei Zhao's official first wife? She too was one of Wei Zhao's little wives?
But shocked as Wu Chengtian was, no one was more shocked than Sun Jingyan. Her claim to be Wei Zhao's mistress was nothing but an agreement between her and Wei Zhao — she was his mistress in name only, not in fact. And though Sun Jingyan did feel a certain fondness for Wei Zhao, until she had made up her mind, she would not take things any further with him.
What astonished her, though, was that a girl as beautiful as Feng Xiaoxiao should also be Wei Zhao's little wife. Which meant Wei Zhao had a first wife as well? How could Feng Xiaoxiao be willing to be his little wife? It hardly seemed possible — hardly seemed real.
