Chapter 393 — The Spring of the Blazing Sun

The Herdsman of the Wasteland · Page 3 of 4

Shen Mu was astonished too. Several great hooks hung from the end of the chain — they must be trying to snag the suns in the well and haul them out.

But soon he saw that the black iron chain was scorched red, and before it even reached the well it was already on the verge of melting, molten iron dripping with a splash down the chain into the well.

Not only that, the great hooks had softened from the heat; before the black iron chain could come near the suns, the hooks had melted away entirely, and the chain itself was burned through and snapped.

From above came the clatter of the chain being yanked; a voice sounded by the well, sighing, "Still can't fish it out..."

The flood dragon flew to the well mouth. The nearer they came, the larger and wider the well mouth grew, until the dragon bore Shen Mu and the others out of the well mouth, and the Dawnspring had become a vast opening five hundred li wide.

Looking into the opening, nothing could be seen but a glare as piercing as the sun; a straight pillar of light shot from the well and shone upon the sky.

The light then spread out from the sky, forming a great dome that covered the place.

This Dawnspring was like a mirror of incomparable vastness, radiant with light!

"Eh? No sun hooked, but a flood dragon instead!" A resonant voice came from beside the well, astonished.

Shen Mu and the others looked toward the sound. Several giants of the Sunherd clan stood by the well in white robes, like priests, hauling on the chain and staring at them in amazement.

In two or three strides Shen Mu walked to the head of the flood dragon and said with a smile, "Shen Mu, of the Carefree Land, has come to see the Sun Warden! I beg the elders to announce me!"

"A guest from the Carefree Land!"

The several Sunherd god-clan experts were startled; they hastily dropped the chain and saluted him one after another, crying loudly, "Guest of the Carefree Land, wait a moment, let us go and report!" With that they turned and hurried off.

"They seem to have misunderstood. I only said I was of the Carefree Land; I never said I had come from the Carefree Land."

Shen Mu scratched his head and had the flood dragon come down by the well. Seeing how solemn these Sunherds were, he feared they meant to summon the clan's high-ranking figures and receive him with great ceremony.

Si Yunxiang knocked on the Dragon Nest and called into it, "Princess Xiu, we've reached the Dawnspring. Come out quickly."

Ling Yuxiu woke from her meditation, leaped up, and flew out as a wisp of dragon aura, landing and resuming her form. Si Yunxiang was full of envy: "Princess Plump-Chest has advanced so greatly in cultivation in so short a time — stronger than me now!"

Ling Yuxiu looked around, and her heart was greatly shaken; she stared straight at the great ship moored not far from the Dawnspring. It was not the first time she had seen the Dawn Ark, yet she could not hide the shock in her heart.

This Dawn Ark was simply too vast; a chain dragged a black sun, crouching upon the ground.

The deck of that ship was a continent, able to let tens of thousands live and multiply upon it!

She looked around, and her heart was shaken again. The Dawnspring was enclosed all about by the dome, forming a unique space, filled with a restless power.

Pure yang energy!

Shen Mu, meanwhile, was studying a tall stone stele by the well. Snow Fox came up close, took out a small notebook with brush and ink, and made ready to record the writing on the stele. Ever since she had begun learning calligraphy and painting from the Deaf Elder, she had become utterly diligent, copying down every scrap of writing she came across.

But she did not recognize the writing on this stele, so she had to ask, "Young Master, what does the stele say?"

"This is a stele inscription written in divine script, recording the history beneath the Dawnspring."
