Chapter 582 — The Completion Ceremony
"What is a hidden family, anyway?" Wei Zhao seemed not to have taken Fatty Lai's earlier words to heart.
"The hidden families are mysterious clans that stand above the Four Great Families and the Five Minor Families. No one knows their names — only the Yu family, which is said to be a branch of one of them, or perhaps the Yu family is itself a hidden family's line living out in the world!" Fatty Lai's expression was grave. "But the hidden families' strength surpasses all the others — it's just that they seldom meddle in the affairs of the mundane world!"
"Oh." Wei Zhao nodded, his face blank. "None of that matters. Just tell me where Zhao Qibing is."
Fatty Lai was taken aback, and knew at once that Wei Zhao was set on going after Zhao Qibing. He could not help saying, with some resignation: "Zhao Qibing founded the Qibing Real Estate Company here in Songshan City. Today the Qibing Tower was just completed, and tonight he's holding a completion ceremony at the Qibing Restaurant in front of the tower. He's invited a great many of Songshan City's elite, and I received an invitation too."
"Completed?" Wei Zhao laughed coldly. "Fatty Lai, go find some excavators and bulldozers right now. We're going to pay this Young Master Bing a visit."
Wei Zhao's tone carried an unquestionable certainty, and so Fatty Lai understood that no matter what Zhao Qibing's background might be, nothing could hold back the boss's fury now. Yet Fatty Lai was just as firm: since the boss meant to move against Zhao Qibing, then he, as the little brother, would naturally be first into the charge. He had already decided to follow Wei Zhao — so what did he care about Zhao Qibing, or hidden families?
"Yes, boss!" Fatty Lai was in real estate himself and had engineering crews under him, so scraping together a few bulldozers and excavators was no hardship at all.
When Tang Yun heard Wei Zhao's words, she was startled. "Wei Zhao, what are you going to do? Don't go making trouble..."
"Let's go see Uncle Tang first." Wei Zhao did not take up her words. He understood her worry well enough, but his mind was made up. Zhao Qibing had dared to touch Tang Yun; how could Wei Zhao possibly let him off lightly?
Seeing that Wei Zhao did not answer, Tang Yun knew he meant to avenge her. But she also feared he was no match for those people — especially after what Fatty Lai had just said, all that talk of the Four Great Families and the Five Minor Families. The very sound of it was frightening! And that Zhao Qibing was tied to hidden families even more powerful than those; how could Tang Yun not be nervous? Her face need not be ruined now, and naturally she wanted to live quietly and safely at Wei Zhao's side, not to have him courting fresh trouble.
"Wei Zhao..." She was moved, but even more afraid that something would happen to him. If anything happened to Wei Zhao, what would become of her?
"Heh..." Wei Zhao gave a faint, cold laugh. "He should have thought about the consequences before he touched you."
"You... don't kill anyone..." Tang Yun knew how formidable Wei Zhao was, and that when he struck in anger he never counted the cost. She was terrified he would bring disaster down on himself; she would sooner he did not stand up for her at all.
"Kill..." Wei Zhao was slightly startled. In truth, he had already set Young Master Bing on his blacklist. But Tang Yun's words had jogged something in him. If it had been the old him, Zhao Qibing would have been no more than a small shrimp in his eyes, a man he could snuff out with a wave of his hand.
And once he was dead, there would be no consequences. But today, with so many eyes upon them, killing Zhao Qibing would be somewhat difficult. Still, a death sentence may be pardoned, a living punishment cannot be escaped; there were plenty of ways to turn a man into one of the living dead. There was no need for Wei Zhao to be hunted by the police merely to kill Zhao Qibing.
"I won't kill him today." When Wei Zhao said this, he had already written Zhao Qibing off as a dead man — even if not today, then someday. But he would not say such things to Tang Yun. Instead he said: "Let's go see Uncle Tang first."
Tang Yun sighed. She had not caught the double meaning in his words, but she knew all the same that Wei Zhao would hardly let Zhao Qibing off lightly today. Only — would it bring down some great trouble upon them?
Mother Tang accompanied Wei Zhao to Tang Jucheng's ward. Father Tang also knew that his daughter and Wei Zhao had broken up, and he was rather startled to see Wei Zhao come. Yet seeing that Wei Zhao still respected him as before, Tang Jucheng found it rather strange.
Only Mother Tang was present as well, so Tang Jucheng could not press him; he meant to ask later, in detail, just how matters stood.
Wei Zhao examined Tang Jucheng's condition. It was only a broken bone, now set, nothing serious. Still, he quickly wrote out a prescription and handed it to Mother Tang: "Fill this prescription, decoct it morning and evening, one dose a day, and he'll be recovered within a month. It's the nerve damage that's the trouble — we can't manage that yet. I'll have to fetch something from my hometown."
"Yes, yes!" Mother Tang hurried to take the prescription, handling it carefully, and was deeply grateful to Wei Zhao. She had witnessed the wonder of her daughter's pain vanishing in an instant, and now she trusted Wei Zhao utterly.
Since Wei Zhao said he could be cured, then there could be no doubt of it.
After taking his leave of Mother Tang and Tang Yun, Wei Zhao walked out of the hospital, his face dreadfully dark. He had no idea what in the world a hidden family was, but Wei Zhao had never feared anyone, hidden families or no. Deal with Zhao Qibing first!
"Boss, the bulldozers and excavators are ready, and I've also contacted a demolition crew." Fatty Lai had guessed what Wei Zhao meant to do.
Wei Zhao nodded. "That completion ceremony of theirs — when does it start?"
"Six o'clock tonight," said Fatty Lai.
"Oh. It's already begun, then. Let's go." Wei Zhao glanced at the time on his phone.
Fatty Lai left his own car behind and climbed into Wei Zhao's beat-up van; he would have to give directions. As for the excavators and bulldozers and the demolition crew, he had already called them and told them to stand by near the Qibing Tower.
The morning's unpleasantness had long since been tossed to the back of Zhao Qibing's mind. Apart from a touch of regret — a girl as beautiful as a fairy, disfigured, no longer of any interest to him — he had no other thoughts about it at all.
To him, those shantytown rabble were no different from ants; crushing them was the easiest thing in the world. Now he had more important matters at hand. Today was a grand day for Qibing Real Estate!
Zhao Qibing's identity was deeply mysterious, but the people of standing in Songshan City all vaguely knew that a great family power stood behind him — especially since Li Cihua, that local snake, was his running dog. So for Zhao Qibing's completion ceremony, many came to give face by attending.
