Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 243 of 501

Hearing Yang Juehuan's words, Zhang Bin gave a chuckle and said, "Wang Mei and I have already agreed—once we're back, I'll get her a computer and let her learn a bit about trading stocks and forex. Doing some financial investing wouldn't be bad either."

Yang Xutang nodded in deep agreement, then said, "That sounds good too. I think Chen Shutang mentioned back in high school that she was quite interested in stocks. When the time comes, let the two of them compare notes."

"Chen Shutang is...?" Wang Mei naturally had no idea who Chen Shutang was.

"The boss's number one wife, his first girlfriend, our high school classmate, and the beauty queen of our school," Zhang Bin explained.

"Ah." Wang Mei was instantly delighted. Yang Ce arranging for his girlfriend to trade stocks alongside her was clearly a show of strong support. With Yang Juehuan behind her, Wang Mei no longer feared losing money. From now on she would just consult Chen Shutang whenever in doubt, and even if she did lose money, Yang Shuoxuan would not blame her for it.

Whenever Huang Yan had a spare moment, she would come back to first class and keep Yang Ce and the others company. Everyone on this flight was Wang Mei's colleague, and now that Wang Mei had resigned, no one minded Huang Yan, her best friend, sitting and chatting with her.

In the end, the plane still landed at Donghai International Airport, and Yang Ce, Zhang Bin, and Wang Mei carried their luggage and said their final farewells to Huang Yan.

"Lele, we'll come see you often." Wang Mei was a little emotional too—after all, this was her best friend.

"Damn, when Huang Yan finally manages to come back one of these times, the boss is going to want to get lovey-dovey with her—what are you going to be, a third wheel?" Zhang Bin's remark instantly lightened the mood, and all four of them burst out laughing.

"Come find me." Huang Yan quickly planted a kiss on Yang Juehuan's cheek, then ran back onto the plane, while Yang Ce, Zhang Bin, and Wang Mei disembarked and walked up the airport walkway.

"Brother Yang!" Stepping out of the airport, they were greeted by Bao Lin's sunny smile.

"Finally back on my own turf." The moment Yang Ce set foot on Donghai soil, a feeling of warmth came over him.

This was the first time Bao Lin had called Yang Ce "Brother Yang" in front of Zhang Bin, but Zhang Bin had no idea who Bao Lin was, so he did not find it particularly strange—he simply assumed Bao Lin was a friend of Yang Juehuan's.

The car carried the four of them speeding toward Songjiang City. It was Wang Mei's first time in Songjiang. Though the plane had landed in Donghai before and she had once taken the chance to visit a nearby mall, this was the first time she had truly traveled this far.

"Baozi, let me introduce you—this is my good buddy Zhang Bin, my high school classmate, the kind of friend who's thick as thieves," Yang Ce said, pointing at Zhang Bin as he spoke to Bao Lin.

"Hello, my name's Bao Lin—just call me Baozi." Bao Lin turned his head and gave Zhang Bin a friendly nod. "From now on, if you need anything in Songjiang, just say the word. Ha, listen to me—you're Brother Yang's sworn brother, so you don't need anything from me at all."

Zhang Bin nodded, a little puzzled. He knew his boss seemed quite formidable, but he had no idea who Bao Lin really was.

Still, Zhang Bin had spent enough time around Yan that he did not think too much of it. It was Wang Mei beside him who immediately sensed that the driver up front, chauffeuring Yang Ce, seemed to be no ordinary person. From the way he talked, it sounded as though he could settle just about anything in Songjiang—which would mean Yang Ce was even more formidable still. Curious, she lowered her voice and asked Zhang Bin, "Zhang Bin, what exactly does your boss do? He's not really some underworld boss, is he?"

"My boss?" Zhang Bin had been startled far too many times by Yang Ce these past few days, and Wang Mei's question left him at a bit of a loss for how to answer. In the past, he would have said, The boss and I have been thick as thieves since high school—who doesn't know who? But now Zhang Bin had discovered that Yang Ce seemed to have become another person entirely. Of course, that referred to Yang Juehuan's identity and abilities; the only thing that had not changed was how he felt about him. Judging from the two matters of Yang Ce going to rescue Wang Mei's parents and then doing everything in his power to clear Zhang Bin of murder suspicion, the boss had truly treated him as a good brother from the bottom of his heart.

Just then, Yang Juehuan's phone rang, and Zhang Bin took the opportunity to shut his mouth, because he had plenty of questions of his own to ask Yang Juehuan.

"Hello?" Yang Ce answered the call.

"Hello, is this Yang Ce? This is your eldest sister. Have you gotten off the plane?" Yang Li's voice came through the line.

"Oh, Eldest Sister, I just got off the plane. I'm on the road from Donghai back to Songjiang right now." Before coming back, Yang Ce had spoken with Yang Li on the phone and knew she had something urgent to discuss with him.

"That's great!" Yang Li said. "My dad's been worried sick these past few days. A construction company over in Fenghuang City ordered some of my dad's engineering machinery, but just as he was getting ready to deliver it, he got a threat from that machinery company in Fenghuang City—they told him that if he dared haul the machinery into Fenghuang City, they'd smash it on the spot."

Yang Xutang immediately frowned. This fellow was a bit too arrogant, wasn't he? Even with the power he now wielded, he had never resorted to underhanded means to suppress a competitor. "Where are you? Wait for me a bit—I'll come over, and we'll talk in person."

"I'm at home, and my dad's here too. This is the first deal my dad's been in charge of, and it's turned out like this. He's been so worried he hasn't been able to eat all day." Yang Li said.

"All right, I understand. Wait for me," Yang Yanzhou said.

"Baozi, drop Zhang Bin and Wang Mei off first, then take me to my uncle's house. Something's come up on his end. A bit faster, if you can," Yang Minlan instructed Bao Lin.

"Got it." With that, Bao Lin picked up speed.

"Boss, there's no rush on our account. Wang Mei doesn't have a place here yet—we're just going to be settled into a hotel for now anyway. Why don't you take care of your business first and come back for us later?" Zhang Bin said.

Yang Ce hesitated for a moment. "That works too, as long as you two aren't in a hurry."

"What would we be in a hurry for? We've got nothing to do anyway," Zhang Bin said indifferently.

Once they entered the Songjiang city limits, the car slowed down. Bao Lin was already doing his best to overtake, but there were simply too many traffic lights, and the speed would not pick up.

"What kind of driving is this?" Bao Lin could not help but curse at the Passat ahead of them. Yang Juehuan's uncle's house happened to require a right turn at this intersection, while the Passat ahead meant to go straight—yet it was sitting in the right-turn lane. Though it had left some space to the side, a small car might squeeze through, but Bao Lin's Jinbei van would be hard-pressed.

To be continued.

886. A Traffic Accident

There are always some utterly shameless people in the city who delight in breaking traffic rules. They secretly congratulate themselves when they run a red light and no camera catches them, and they swell with smug satisfaction when they drive in the wrong lane or go against traffic and no traffic officer nabs them.

This stretch of road was not a main artery, so no traffic police were on duty. But the intersection here was fairly congested, and the driver of that Passat, hoping to be first through the moment the light turned green, had planted himself in the right-turn lane.
