Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 436 of 501

Under cover of night, the two of them arrived together at the former site of the Black Widow hit squad in the shantytown.

Everyone here had seen the formidable skill Yang Ce displayed last time, and they were utterly convinced of him. These people revered the strong. Now that they saw how powerful Yang Ce was—and that he was going to find them a place for group training, so that they too might become as strong as Yan—who would be unwilling? Naturally, they were all overjoyed.

The one called Golden Bull in particular was already rubbing his fists and palms together.

Enthusiasm was a good thing. Yang Yuting nodded. What he feared was this bunch slacking off—if that happened, no amount of training environment, however good, would be worth a damn.

These people were already quite formidable fighting individually, but what they lacked was the spirit of mutual coordination. Li Qiang's group was the exact opposite—their ability to coordinate with one another was strong. Let these people blend with each other, and it might produce an unexpectedly good effect.

A medium-sized bus pulled up near the shantytown. Under cover of night, the entire Black Widow hit squad boarded and moved out. Since they had no luggage to speak of—only their tools as professional killers—one vehicle was enough to hold them all.

Yang Ce had called Li Qiang, Wang Peng, and the others in advance, so after only a cursory check, the bus drove unimpeded into the secret base on the outskirts.

At any other time, getting a vehicle like this inside would have been difficult in the extreme.

"Brother Yang!" Li Qiang stood solemnly to one side, with Liu Chao and Wang Peng flanking him. Seeing Yang Ce get out of the car, they immediately greeted him.

"How's it been lately? Have the brothers been slacking off in training?" Seeing that the base was still in a state of strict readiness, Yang Ce knew their training would not have slackened, but he asked half-jokingly anyway.

"No. The brothers do routine and extreme training every day," Li Qiang said. "No one's been slacking."

Yang Yuting nodded, then said to the people in the vehicle, "All of you, get down."

At Yang Juehuan's command, Golden Bull and the others got off the bus one after another—but the moment they stood on the ground, an obvious gap between them and Li Qiang and his people became apparent.

Though Golden Bull and his group could count as experts, they stood one here, one there, scattered east and west, with no discipline to speak of. Yet there was no trace of contempt in the eyes of Li Qiang and the others. Yang Ce had taught them that they could despise the enemy, but must never underestimate the enemy.

With friend and foe indistinguishable, Li Qiang, Liu Chao, Wang Peng, and the others kept constant vigilance, not daring the slightest negligence.

"Li Qiang, Golden Bull, step forward and introduce yourselves to each other," Yang Ce said after sweeping his gaze over both groups.

"Yes, sir!" Before Golden Bull could react, Li Qiang strode forward. "My name is Li Qiang. I'm captain of the First Company and the overall head of this base."

Golden Bull knew in his heart that Li Qiang's people were also under Yang Juehuan—perhaps they would be comrades-in-arms from now on. But the two had previously belonged to two different organizations, so a certain hostility between them was hard to avoid. Seeing Li Qiang take the lead in introducing himself, Golden Bull's expression turned somewhat ugly—and with that, his momentum weakened a little.

After Li Qiang finished, Golden Bull, unwilling to be outdone, said, "My name is Golden Bull. Black Widow hit squad. I'm good at killing."

Hearing Golden Bull say he was good at killing, Li Qiang and the others said nothing, but a hint of amusement showed in their eyes.

Yang Shuoxuan saw the hostility between the two sides and could not help but laugh heartily. "So it seems you're all a bit unconvinced by each other. Good—here's how it'll be: have a contest, all of you together. No killing blows. Of course, whichever side wins or loses, from now on you're one family. The Black Widow hit squad no longer exists, and you, Li Qiang, will be merged into a new organization: the Black Butterfly."

"Yes, sir!" Li Qiang, Liu Chao, and Wang Peng answered at once.

Golden Bull, equally unwilling to show weakness, said to the former Black Widow hit squad members behind him, "Are you confident?"

"Yes! Yes!" Though the voices were loud, they were ragged and uneven. Golden Bull could not help but flush red—so this was the gap between them.

Yang Yuting nodded and said, "Then begin. My time is limited, so make it quick—don't disappoint me too much."

The moment Yang Juehuan's voice fell, someone on Golden Bull's side made the first move—but on Li Qiang's side, without an order from the three of them, the brothers behind did not stir in the slightest.

Only when the Black Widow side had all fully started moving did Li Qiang's side move. Though the Black Widow people were skilled, Li Qiang's people were no weaker—and they had an extraordinary spirit of cooperation.

The most obvious example was when Taurus was attacking Liu Chao and seemed about to put him down, only for another brother to rush in at the last instant and block Taurus's fierce blow, giving Liu Chao room to breathe.

On the surface, Taurus and the others were pressing the attack hard, but in truth it was having little effect. They had been on the offensive the whole time, yet not a single man on the other side had fallen.

Their own side, meanwhile, had lost quite a few men because they attacked too recklessly and were put down by the enemy. Looking at his fallen brothers, Taurus grew anxious—and at the same time understood why Yang Ce had insisted on putting them through training.

Who was superior and who inferior was already plain enough; there was no need to go on. To keep fighting would only make them look foolish. At that thought, Taurus bellowed, "Everyone, stop!"

Black Widow's people were still in the full swing of the attack and had no idea why Taurus wanted them to stop. But since Yang Ce had put Taurus forward as their leader—if only for the time being—they all reined in their hands at his command and stepped to one side.

"Everyone, stop as well," Li Qiang said, seeing the other side had quit fighting, and gave the same order to his own men.

Only after Black Widow's people had fallen back and taken their places did the shock hit them: so many of their brothers had already been struck down, and they had kept charging blindly forward, fancying themselves fierce, when in fact they had already lost.

And look at the other side—not one man down. Only now did they secretly admire Yang Ce's foresight, and understand why he had sent them here to train.

They were all willing to follow Yang Ce, but that did not mean they were willing to follow Li Qiang and the others. Yet after the fight just now, Black Widow's people were truly convinced. This was the gap between them and their opponents, and it forced them to bow their heads in humility.

"All right, it looks like the result is clear," Yang Ce said with a smile, then asked Taurus, "How do you feel?"

"Brother Yang, I'm convinced." Taurus spoke from the bottom of his heart. "Brother Li Qiang's men are not only skilled, every one of them, but more importantly they coordinate with perfect默契—that's what we lack. And it seems every man in Brother Li Qiang's team is at roughly the same level, while ours are uneven—some good, some poor."

"Good. Since you've recognized your shortcomings, I won't say much more." Yang Ce nodded. "Starting today, there is no more Black Widow assassin group. From now on there is only one Black Butterfly organization. The thing I hate most is infighting. If anyone lets me hear of it again, don't blame me for being unkind. Wu Ming knows my methods very well. Anyone who doesn't can ask him."
