Chapter 362 — Li Dianchi's Little Scheme
Li Dianchi said his two lines, saw that Yang Yongjin was unmoved, and knew his words had failed to sway Yang Ce. He pressed his advantage at once: "Bro, I'm begging you! I have to get out of here right now! See that? The guy behind me won't let up! Let me go, and afterward I'll not only pay you for the two cars, I'll give you a handsome reward on top of it! Guaranteed, absolutely!"
"Ha—" Yang Linyue smiled faintly. "And once you're gone, where am I supposed to find you? Besides, I'm here traveling abroad—I might fly out tomorrow! You'll send me the money afterward? Who do you think you're fooling? You really think I'd believe you?"
"Huh?" Li Dianchi was stunned. He hadn't taken Yang Ce for a European or American—he'd assumed, seeing an Asian man driving a sports car through a busy downtown, that he was simply an Asian-American, not someone with a passport from Asia. But hearing that Yang Yanzhou was here as a tourist and leaving tomorrow, he couldn't help but blank for a moment. Then his mind turned, he studied Yang Juehuan's features carefully, and his expression shifted at once into something warm and eager. He ventured, "Brother, are you a Huaxia native?"
Li Dianchi spoke in Huaxia dialect, because after examining Yang Juehuan's features at length he had decided Yang Ce was more likely a Huaxia native. Asians were all yellow-skinned, true, but there were subtle differences between the peoples of each country—not glaring, but if you looked closely enough, eight times out of ten you could guess right.
"So what if I am? You still owe me for the car." Yang Ce had long since pegged Li Dianchi as a Huaxia native too, so he took no notice at all and paid his words no heed.
"Brother, I'm from Huaxia too! You know the saying—when a fellow townsman meets a fellow townsman, both are moved to tears! We come from the same country! We ought to look out for each other!" Li Dianchi strained to make his voice more moving. Though the men from the mysterious Bureau of Investigation would be on him any moment, to settle matters with this kid he had no choice but to preach patiently—otherwise the kid wouldn't let him go, and he couldn't take him in a fight either. Then he'd really be finished.
"Fellow townsmen and you smash my car?" Yang Ce gave Li Dianchi a mocking look. "Save the nonsense. I don't know what this car sells for in Europe or America, but at home it's three million. You owe me for two, so that's six million. Get the money out now, or you're not going anywhere!"
Yang Ce had been thinking that once he got back home he'd buy Zhang Bin a car out of his own pocket—and now, less than half an hour later, someone had come along and offered to pay for it!
Yang Yongjin might be short on cash, and the car wasn't Yang Juehuan's, but Yang Shuoxuan couldn't let this fellow get off easy! Smashing his car right in front of him—that attitude was a serious problem!
"Bro! You're my own brother! You see that? The idiot behind me is after me—I have to run! I can't let him catch me. Let me go first, otherwise if he grabs me he'll haul me away and you won't get a single cent!" Li Dianchi said. "We're both Huaxia natives, brother, I'm not lying to you—that guy's with a terrorist organization. He's a total badass, you can't take him, and neither can I! Once you're in his hands, there's no good ending!"
"I don't care whose organization he's with." Yang Jiyan was utterly unconcerned. Never mind a terrorist organization sending a single man—even the armed groups of Africa wouldn't pry a person out of his hands!
"…" Hearing Yang Juehuan's reply, Li Dianchi nearly burst into tears. How could this man be impervious to reason and to force alike? Nothing he said got through! What kind of person was this!
Still, he refused to give up. "Bro, let me go, and even if you go back home, I'll go back too. Give me a way to contact you, and I'll come find you when I'm back. Triple—no, five times the compensation, what do you say?"
"Screw you, are you brain-dead?" Yang Puqi slapped Li Dianchi across the face. "Cut the useless talk. Pay for the cars now, or you're not leaving! Spare me the future plans—who knows where the hell I'll be after I go home!"
Yang Yanzhou was telling the truth: soon after returning home he'd be setting out for Yunnan, and whether he'd come back was anyone's guess. Besides, who knew whether this kid was spinning a pack of lies?
The way he looked now, if the man behind him caught him there'd be no good ending—whether he'd even live was another question. Yang Duoran had to get the money first!
"Shit! What's wrong with you! It's not that I won't pay you—are you forcing me? Are you forcing me?" Seeing that he truly couldn't talk Yang Ce around, Li Dianchi turned belligerent again.
As the saying goes, the soft fear the hard, the hard fear the reckless, and the reckless fear those with no fear of death! He had no fear of death now—surely this kid would flinch a little and let him go?
"I'm telling you, push me again and I'll fight you to the death! I'm telling you, if that guy behind me catches me, I'm done for too!" Li Dianchi roared. "Damn it, it's death either way! If you don't let me go right now, I'll fight you! Your death or my life—even if I die, you won't come out of this clean!"
"Finished?" Yang Ce had listened quietly while Li Dianchi ranted, and now he asked, very coldly.
"Uh…" Li Dianchi hadn't expected his threats and bluster to have no effect at all on Yang Puqi, and for Yang Ce to ask whether he was finished… This was plainly contempt, plain scorn!
Li Dianchi lost his temper. "Damn you! You're asking for death!"
Shouting, Li Dianchi lunged recklessly at Yang Ce, looking for all the world like he meant to fight to the finish.
Unfortunately, Yang Ce slapped him again, sending him reeling: "What is this, an acrobatics show? You looking for a beating? Give me a straight answer—money or no money? No money and I'll cripple you; money and you hand it over!"
"…" Li Dianchi spat out a bloody tooth. He was truly being driven mad by Yang Ce! This man was ruthless and impossible to shake—he was simply no match for him!
Still, Li Dianchi looked back and saw the figure drawing nearer and nearer. He heaved a helpless sigh inwardly. Nothing he said mattered now—the man behind him had caught up, and even if he ran he couldn't escape!
It didn't matter anymore. At that thought, Li Dianchi's face fell—and with it, he abandoned all pretense. The ferocity of a moment ago vanished, replaced by the wretched look of a man resigned to the slaughter: "Do whatever you want. I've got no money, just my life. Finish me off…"
What Li Dianchi figured was this: since you're such a badass, kid, then just kill me. Better that than being dragged off by the Bureau of Investigation men behind me—if I don't confess, I'll only suffer more! Better this kid put me out of my misery.
"You want to die?" Yang Ce glanced at Li Dianchi, understanding dawning—he knew exactly what the man was thinking. But why would Yang Ce grant him his wish?
"Yeah, I wrecked your car and I won't pay, so die of rage! Go on, kill me, aren't you a badass? Do it!" Li Dianchi wore the face of a man courting death. "Can't stand the sight of me, can you? Kill me, come on, quick, quick!"
